minimoon

Nowadays, so many newlyweds are opting for a shorter ‘minimoon’ break straight after their wedding and booking a more exotic honeymoon destination for a later date.

With this in mind, I’ve created a little guide to Magical Minimoon Destinations that aren’t too far from home and defintely won’t break the bank…

Take a look!

Pisa

I can’t recommend Pisa enough for your minimoon – this is where I flew to start my minimoon travels, after snapping up some sensationally priced flights via Ryanair…

Now, aside from the leaning tower, there’s not actually a great deal to see (or do) in Pisa itself – but it’s a brilliant base to travel to areas around the region of beautiful Tuscany.

Lucca is roughly a half an hour train ride away; renowned for its Renaissance-era walls which surround the entire outskirts of the beautiful city. A walk around these walls with a gelato in your hand is simply a must! It’s pretty small, so you can explore the sights of Lucca in a day…depending on how many gelato stops you have!

Florence is also easily reached by train – it takes about an hour, during which you can see the rolling hills and beautiful countryside of Tuscany from the comfort of your seat.  I fell head over heels in love with the architecture of the city… We decided to venture to one of the best vantage points, right at the top of the city, to Forte Di Belvedere – where Kim and Kanye tied the knot back in 2015. As soon as I saw this place I understood why they were married here – the panoramic views are breathtaking! I would definitely recommend this as a minimoon destination for newlyweds…

Paris

Ahh, Paris – both the city of light and definitely love. I mean, what could be more romantic than a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower and with your new husband or wife? Or how about a river cruise along the Seine, a stroll around the Louvre – followed by an intimate wine and cheese picnic in the Jardins des Tuilleires?

Or, if you’re less of a culture vulture… you could always opt for a day trip to Disneyland Paris!!

Flights from the UK to Paris are always pretty reasonably priced. There’s also the option of going directly from London via a relaxing trip on the Eurostar… (something I’ve always wanted to do but have never gotten round to, yet!)

There are so many beautiful boutique style hotels to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The only problem with Paris is I don’t think you’ll ever want to come home…

Flights start from as little as £28 per person.

Barcelona

Barcelooooonnnaaaa! This city really has it all – amazing architecture, gorgeous food, great places to stay and best of all a BEAUTIFUL beach to relax!

Stroll along La Rambla through the heart of the city… take a cable car up to Montjuic Castle (it’s an exhilarating experience!) and awe at the panoramic views of the city below when you reach the top.

La Sagrada Familia is also well worth a visit – not only is the view from the towers at the top is incredible (at over 172 metres high you’ll be glad to know there’s a lift!) but the inside of the church itself will take your breath away. There’s so much intricate detail – you can understand why it’s been under construction for over 135 years! Be sure to book your ticket in advance to avoid the queues – honestly, they’re pretty ridiculous.

Venice

Venice is one of those places you see in movies and wonder if it looks how it does on the big screen in real life. Well, let me tell you, it does!

It’s so hard to believe the entire city is built on water… it defies all rationality! The region is made up of over 100 small islands all connected by canals and bridges and floating on a lagoon. There are no roads – so absolutely no noisy traffic to detract from those romantic moments between you and your new husband or wife… In fact, the nosiest sounds you’ll probably hear will be from the Gondoliers – crying “OOOHEEE” as they steer around the corners to ensure they don’t collide with any other gondolas.

Italian cuisine is certainly high on my list of favourites, I mean, who wouldn’t want to feast on Pizza, Pasta and Gelato after you’ve been dieting like crazy before the wedding? It’s the perfect time to gorge yourself silly, all washed down with an Aperol Spritz, or a giant glass of Prosecco – which is actually produced in the Veneto region – therefore it’s cheap as chips. Do you need any more reasons to get yourself booked up?

A day trip to the isles of Burano and Murano are also an absolute MUST. Burano consists of brightly coloured rainbow houses that will melt your heart… and Murano is a great place to buy a glass souvenir to remind you of your minimoon.

Gdansk

I had never really considered travelling to Poland, until I found return flights for £20 and I knew that for that price, I just couldn’t say no!

It turns out, not only are the flights to Gdansk ridiculously cheap, but when you get there the price of EVERYTHING is ridiculously cheap too… an Uber ride from the airport to our hotel (which was about a 30 minute drive) cost £6!

You can get yourself a delicious 3 course meal with alcohol for about £25. Crazy or what? You and your new husband or wife can basically live like kings for a few days.

gdansk

In terms of things to do, there really isn’t all that much in Gdansk… there’s a tonne of beautiful architecture to see, but that should only take you a day or so. It’s certainly a great base if you want to see more of Poland – trains to Krakow and Warsaw are easily accessible and rail fare is very reasonable…

Flight prices start from as little as… wait for it… £16!! How can you say no to that?!
