Made Hotel, New York: complete calm in the centre of the city that never sleeps!

Updated: Sep 11, 2022

]Fell in love with New York the first time I ever visited and lucky to have been many times in both Summer and Winter because of having family over there and visits when I worked and lived in Cape Cod for 14 months now ten years (where has time gone!). It will forever be one of my favourite city's in the world and for good reason (check out my blog post LINK for the top 10 things to do when you stay!). I visited the Made Hotel for a fleeting 48 hour trip to the Big Apple and it did not disappoint - a calm oasis right next to all the sights! To top it off all of the staff were just so unbelievably friendly and helpful, one of the warmest hotel welcomes I've ever had!

Location 9/10: located perfectly tucked away a couple of blocks away from the Empire State Building. With an understated entrance it really does feel like a secret boutique hideaway. Convenient to catch the subway or walk to anywhere you need to go! A 20 minute stroll to Bryant Park, 30 minutes to Times Square and 40 minutes to the centre of picturesque Central Park!

Room 8.5/10: I had booked just one of their standard rooms which was still very large with minimalist decor throughout that made you feel instantly at home. The room was so quiet you would never think the busy streets of New York were the other side of the window! I have to say it was one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in (on par with The Pig hotels (their beds are dreamy!). They even had Davines toiletries throughout which I thought was a wonderful touch to use a unique brand from Italy that I absolutely love (they all came home with me of course!). My only thing was that were wasn't a kettle or coffee machine, but is quite common for a US hotel. Although you could pop down to their cafe to get a complimentary drink at any time!

Dining 9/10: Made had an amazing little tapas restaurant which was lovely and intimate but you could also enjoy the menu in their casual bar area or in one of their 2 outdoor rooftops! I ate there and it was delicious; tomato bread, potatoes bravas and incredible garlic prawns! They also had a complimentary wine hour 5 - 6.30pm which was such a nice touch given how expensive the city is!

Value for money 8.5/10: So there standard room was £300 a night but you are paying to be in the centre of New York and also get a lot of amenities you wouldn't get just any hotel! And you would pay that much for a chain hotel in New York so I do think for NYC it is a reasonable price for the service and quality of room and experience! It felt like a true boutique hotel, I booked through Mr & Mrs Smith and got a Smith Extra which was a bottle of prosecco (I always recommend booking through them and they will match if you find a cheaper rate!).

GETAWAY GUIDE FEELING: 8.5/10: I loved the location and never felt a true boutique feeling in the heart of a busy city like the Made Hotel! I also loved all the little touches like wine hour, complimentary cafe and the bed was like a cloud! I would definitely visit again and if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of New York exploring I couldn't recommend this enough!
